JBC Veteran's Tournament

This tournament was introduced in 2002 and is played on the first Wednesday in February. The trophy was donated by Club Member Andrew Haddon. It is a round robin tournament for the over 40’s (although this can change according to the ages of the members in any one particular year). The winners of the first tournament were John Peters and Myra Younger.

  • The Veterans tournament is open to fully paid up members of JBC who are over 40 years of age by the playing date of tournament.
  • The Veterans tournament is a mixed doubles round robin handicap event using individual player handicaps combined to form team handicaps.
  • Individually seeded players cannot be drawn together to form pairs (mixed or level e.g. if 2 women play together they cannot both be seeds). If the total number of players entered is not an even number, it may be necessary to draw a player from two club players in attendance that are not yet 40 years of age but are willing to play in the tournament. If two men or two women have to team up, team handicaps will be adjusted -9 and +9 respectively.
  • Pairs once drawn together will be given team handicaps and split evenly throughout two round robin pools. 3 or more pools may be required for a large entry.
  • If only 2 pools are used, the top 2 pairs from each shall play in a semi-final against each other (pool A winners V pool B runners up etc), with a final to follow. However if 3 pools are used, the winning pair from each pool will move to a new pool of 3 to play off for the final.
  • Games will be the best of 1 to 21 with the exception of the final which shall be the best of 3 games to 21. (rally point scoring rules apply).

Please note that in order to complete the tournament on the night, it’s a possibility that not every round robin game will be played e.g. if a team clearly has no chance of reaching the next round or stage. This is at the committee’s discretion.
